Trending Warmer; Mostly Dry

| June 3, 2015 @ 6:40 am

SHOWERS HARD TO FIND: A generally dry weather pattern will continue across North/Central Alabama through Saturday with a gradual day to day warming trend. We project mid 80s today and tomorrow, followed by upper 80s Friday, and a high right at 90 degrees Saturday. The sky will be partly to mostly sunny each day, and any afternoon showers will be very isolated, and mainly to the region near the Georgia border in far East Alabama. The chance of rain for the rest of the state is not zero, but most communities will be dry.

THE WEEKEND: New model data suggests there won’t be too much change in our weather Saturday and Sunday; the high will be very close to 90 degrees both days and any afternoon showers or storms should be few and far between.

NEXT WEEK: Moisture levels will rise, the air aloft will be slightly cooler, so we will broad brush the week with the standard summer forecast Monday and Tuesday… partly sunny days, fair nights, and the risk of “scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms”. Highs will be generally in the 87 to 90 degree range, just a tad above average for mid-June in Alabama. We could see an increase in shower/storm activity by Wednesday as an upper trough helps to push a cold front in our direction. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

TROPICS: The Atlantic basin is quiet and tropical storm formation is not expected this week. Over in the eastern Pacific, Blanca has become a major hurricane this morning well west of Mexico; it will weaken late this week and become a tropical storm as it moves into the southern tip of Baja California… it will bring lots of rain and wind to Cabo San Lucas by Saturday and Sunday. Some of the moisture from this could reach Arizona or New Mexico early next week.

AT THE BEACH: Mostly sunny days, fair nights along the Gulf Coast through early next week with only widely scattered showers and thunderstorms from Panama City west to Gulf Shores. Highs will be in the 81-84 degree range on the immediate coast, with 87-90 degree highs inland. The sea water temperature early this morning at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is 82 degrees.
