Mostly Dry Through Saturday

| June 2, 2015 @ 3:50 pm

RADAR CHECK: North Alabama is free of showers this afternoon, but widely scattered showers and thunderstorms have formed in a broad band from near Roanoke to Montgomery this afternoon. Best chance of rain this evening will be near and south of I-85…

REST OF THE WEEK: It looks mostly dry for North/Central Alabama with mostly sunny days, fair nights, and a slow warming trend. Showers will be very hard to find, and mainly confined to the southeast corner of the state. Look for mid 80s tomorrow, and we should be in the upper 80s by Friday.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Not much change Saturday; mostly dry and very warm with a high not too far from 90 degrees. Then, moisture should increase Sunday, and we will bring back the chance of “scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms” with a high between 87 and 90.

For now, next week looks pretty routine for June with very warm, humid days and the risk of an afternoon shower or storm in scattered spots each day. Highs stay in the 87 to 90 degree range.

TROPICS: The Atlantic basin is quiet; over in the eastern Pacific Blanca has become a hurricane well to the west of Mexico; it will be a major hurricane tomorrow, but begins to weaken later in the week as it moves over cooler water. This could be an issue for Cabo San Lucas over the weekend with heavy rain and gusty winds. Moisture from Blaca could wind up in the Southwest U.S. next week.

AT THE BEACH: Expect mostly sunny days and fair nights from Panama City west to Gulf Shores through the weekend with only widely scattered showers and thunderstorms. Highs on the immediate coast will be in the low to mid 80s, with 87-90 degrees likely inland. The sea water temperature this afternoon at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is 84 degrees.

RED CROSS GIVING DAY: Consider making a donation to the American Red Cross today; they do so much for our people here in Alabama not only during weather disasters, but in other situations like fires. I dropped by their office in Riverchase today…
