Warm and Dry Through Mid-Week

CALM OCTOBER WEATHER: A developing upper ridge will bring dry weather to Alabama through Thursday with warm afternoons. Expect a good supply of sunshine through scattered clouds each day; we reach the low 80s today, followed by mid 80s tomorrow and Thursday. Birmingham’s average high for today (October 6) us 78.

FRIDAY FRONT: We will introduce the risk of a few showers, and possibly a thunderstorm, Friday afternoon and Friday night thanks to an approaching cold front. But, moisture will be limited, and the upper support passes well to the north, so it doesn’t look to be a big rain event. Otherwise Friday will stay warm with a mix of sun and clouds along with a high in the middle 80s.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Temperatures back off a bit; the high will drop into the upper 70s Saturday, with low 80s Sunday afternoon. Mornings will be pleasant with lows down in the 50s; the coolest morning will come early Sunday when most places will drop into the 50 to 55 degree range. Some of the colder pockets could see upper 40s. Dry air means no rain and a good supply of sunshine both days.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Alabama will host Arkansas at Bryant-Denny Stadium Saturday evening (6:00p CT kickoff)… the sky will be mostly fair, with temperatures falling from 75 degrees at kickoff into the mid 60s by the final whistle.

NATIONAL SHRIMP FESTIVAL: The weather looks very nice in Gulf Shores for the annual event this weekend; mostly sunny days, fair nights, highs around 80 degrees and only a very small risk of a shower. TROPICAL WEATHER: Hurricane Joaquin is moving eastward across the open water of the North Atlantic; it will be come “post tropical” later this week north of the Azores. The wave in the Central Atlantic is having a very hard time due to wind shear, elsewhere everything is quiet across the Atlantic basin.
