Dry Through The Weekend

| February 25, 2016 @ 6:09 am

COOL THURSDAY: We project a high between 50 and 55 degrees this afternoon with a mix of sun and clouds, although sunshine could be hard to find over far Northeast Alabama. The average high for February 25 (for Birmingham) is 61.

TOMORROW THROUGH THE WEEKEND: Friday and Saturday morning will be cold with temperatures near the freezing mark, but afternoon temperatures will reflect a warming trend. The high tomorrow will be in the mid 50s, followed by 60 degrees Saturday, and mid 60s Sunday. The air stays dry and we will enjoy sunny days and clear nights.

NEXT WEEK: A weak surface front will bring the chance of a little light rain Monday, but the latest guidance shows nothing more than sprinkles with no dynamic support and very limited moisture. Tuesday looks generally dry and very mild with a high around 70 degrees.

MORE SEVERE STORMS: Both the GFS and the ECMWF (European) model are on board for another dynamic weather system impacting Alabama late Tuesday night and Wednesday with a chance of strong to severe thunderstorms. Way too early to be specific, but just be aware of the possibility. Take a look at the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

VOODOO LAND: I caution you we are still due for several more cold snaps. I always recommend not planting anything that will be harmed by freezing temperatures until April 15 or later. Birmingham’s latest freeze on record came on April 23, 1986 when the low was 30.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
