
Midday Nowcast: Warm Days With Isolated Showers; Soaking Rains Next Week
Today and tomorrow we are seeing more clouds than sun with some isolated showers possible at just about any time, especially over the northern half of the state.
RADAR CHECK: We have a few scattered showers on radar Alabama this afternoon; otherwise the sky is mostly cloudy with temperatures in the 70s. Showers will fade early tonight, expect a low in the 57-63 degree range early tomorrow morning.
RADAR CHECK: Rain continues over Southeast Alabama this afternoon; a few thunderstorms are involved but SPC has removed the “marginal risk” of severe storms. The sky has cleared over Northwest Alabama, but an upper trough will bring a few scattered showers to the northern half of the state this evening.
WARMEST DAY SO FAR THIS YEAR: Temperatures are in the low to mid 70s across much of Alabama this afternoon, and for most communities this is the warmest day so far this year. Birmingham’s high so far is 73 degrees; easily beating the 68 degree maximum we enjoyed on January 18, but below the record high for January 30… 78 set in 1950.
RADAR CHECK: Rain is falling across parts of North Alabama early this morning, mostly north of I-20. This will taper off by mid-morning, and most of the afternoon will be dry with temperatures rising into the 68-73 degree range.
RADAR CHECK: Areas of light rain continue across the northern half of Alabama as a cold front moves into the state…we also note a few spotty showers over the southeast counties. Temperatures range from the 50s over the northern counties to the mid to upper 70s down south.
RADAR CHECK: Rain continues to fall over a decent part of Alabama this afternoon… otherwise the sky is mostly cloudy with temperatures in the 60s over the northern half of the state; South Alabama communities are seeing low to mid 70s.
RADAR CHECK: Showers are mainly over the southern half of Alabama early this morning, but we will mention periods of rain statewide today ahead of a cold front. Some thunder is possible, and SPC maintains a low end “marginal risk” of severe thunderstorms for South Alabama later today and early tonight.
