A CLEARING SKY: Clouds this morning over North Alabama will give way to a sunny afternoon as dry air returns to the state; we project a high in the mid 60s this afternoon, a little below the average high of 70 fo March 30. Tonight will be clear and rather cool; most places will see a low near 40 degrees early tomorrow, but colder pockets will drop into the mid 30s with a chance of some scattered light frost.
The lingering rain over Central Alabama will end early this morning, and the sky becomes sunny today as dry air returns. Most locations will see a high between 65 and 68 degrees this afternoon.
CALMING DOWN: A band of heavy rain showers moved across North/Central Alabama this morning, producing high winds in a few spots. Wind damage was reported at Hueytown, and also across Calhoun County from Alexandria to Jacksonville to Rabbittown. All of the damage in these areas was the result of strong straight line winds; there was no tornado involved.
RADAR CHECK: Still raining over parts of East and South Alabama early this morning, but drier air is pushing into the northwest part of the state. The sky becomes partly sunny today with a high in the upper 60s for most communities. Tonight will be fair and cool; we drop into the 40-45 degree range early tomorrow morning.
RADAR CHECK: Most of the rain in Alabama this afternoon (at 3:00) is east of a line from Anniston to Clanton to Selma to Grove Hill. SPC maintains a “marginal risk” of severe storms for Southeast Alabama through the evening hours, but the overall threat is very low. And, the sky is clearing behind the rain over parts of North and West Alabama…
Where the sun is shining, temperatures are in the low to mid 60s, but under the clouds readings are holding in the mid 50s. The average high today for Birmingham is 68.
Lingering clouds go away this evening, and tonight will be clear and cold with a low in the 38-42 degree range for most places early tomorrow. The day tomorrow will feature sunshine in full supply with a high between 62 and 65 degrees.
A large rain mass will continue to push slowly southeast in coming hours, and we project a clearing sky from northwest to southeast during the midday hours as drier air returns to the state. Temperatures should reach the low 60s this afternoon, still below the average high of 68 for November 9.
COOL MAY MORNING: Temperatures are in the 50s across the great state of Alabama early this morning; the sky is cloudy and just before daybreak we still see a few lingering showers over the far eastern counties of the state. Those showers will end soon, and the sky becomes partly to mostly sunny as dry air returns.
TOMORROW/SATURDAY: These two days will be warm and mostly dry with a partly sunny sky. We rise into the mid 80s tomorrow, followed by upper 80s Saturday. Some places could touch 90 degrees Saturday afternoon for a real summer preview.
