DRY AIR RETURNS: The sky is sunny across Alabama this afternoon… temperatures range from the upper 40s over the Tennessee Valley to the 60s over the southern third of the state. Tonight will be clear cold… look for a low in the 27-32 degree range over the northern counties.
Alabama’s weather won’t change much through the weekend with partly to mostly sunny cool days and clear cold nights. Highs in the 50-54 degree range today and tomorrow, falling back into the upper 40s Sunday. Morning lows remain below freezing, generally in the 20s.
DRY THROUGH EARLY NEXT WEEK: Dry weather will continue across Alabama through the weekend with sunny cool days and clear cold nights. Highs mostly in the 50-55 degree range, lows between 25 and 32. Colder spots over North Alabama will see low 20s.
Look for sunny cool days and clear cold nights through the weekend. The high today will be in the 46-52 degree range… then expect lows 50s tomorrow and over the weekend. Lows will remain below freezing for most of the state each morning through Monday; mostly between 26 and 32 degrees. These values are a good 10-15 degrees below average for mid to late November in Alabama.
TEMPERATURES REMAIN BELOW AVERAGE: Alabama’s weather will stay dry through the weekend will sunny cool days and clear cold nights. The high tomorrow will be in the upper 40s, followed by low 50s Friday through Sunday. We expect sub-freezing lows over most of the state every morning through Monday of next week… temperatures will drop generally in the 25-32 degree range daily.
BLUE SKY: Temperatures remain about 20 degrees below average across Alabama this afternoon; most places are in the 55-61 degree range at mid-afternoon with a clear sky. Another freeze is likely tonight; most of the state is under a freeze warning again. We expect lows early tomorrow generally in the 25-35 degree range with widespread frost.
WINTER PREVIEW: Despite sunshine in full force, temperatures are only in the 50s over the northern half of Alabama this afternoon. At 2:00p CT, Birmingham reported 52 degrees, which is 23 degrees below the average high of 75 for October 18. And, if we stay below 55 degrees we will establish a new record low maximum for the date
COLD: Today will feature a cloudless sky over Alabama, but temperatures won’t get past the mid 50s over the northern half of the state with a very cool northwest wind of 10-20 mph. This is what we expect in early January; for example the average high for Birmingham on January 1 is 54. Some places could establish a new record low maximum today… the current “record low high” for Birmingham today is 55, set in 1955.
WINTER PREVIEW: The coldest air so far season rolls into Alabama tonight; a freeze warning is in effect as far south as Millport, Fayette, Birmingham, and Anniston. Temperatures there by daybreak tomorrow will drop into the 27-32 degree range; a north breeze will likely persist through the night preventing much frost formation.
COLD WINTER DAY: With a thick cloud cover in place, temperatures are only in the 30s over the northern half of Alabama this afternoon… some communities are below freezing. Radar shows lingering light rain south of a line from Millry to Opelika, and a few very light snow flurries have been reported over the northern counties. Look for gradual clearing tonight; most places will see a low in the 21-27 degree range early tomorrow morning.
RADAR CHECK: Rain is still falling early this morning south of I-59… it will end from the northwest over the next few hours, and by afternoon the rain will be confined to the southeast counties of the state. The rest of the day will be cloudy, breezy, and cold with temperatures holding in the 30s north of Birmingham.
