CLASSIC SUMMER WEATHER: Alabama’s weather won’t change too much over the next few days; we are forecasting highs in the 88-91 degree range for most places with partly sunny days and fair nights. And, during the peak of the daytime heating process we will have random, widely scattered showers and thunderstorms that form (just like yesterday).
ANOTHER HOT, HUMID DAY DAY: Expect a high in the 88-92 degree range across most of Alabama this afternoon with a mix of sun and clouds. Random, scattered showers and storms will fire up again during the heat of the day, mostly between 2:00 and 9:00 p.m. Chance of any one location seeing rain today is 50-60 percent, and like yesterday some of the storms will produce heavy rain, small hail, and gusty winds.
RADAR CHECK: On this hot May afternoon we have random, scattered showers and thunderstorms over the northern half of Alabama, slowing moving southward. Heavier storms are producing small hail and gusty winds. Away from the storms, the sky is partly too mostly sunny with temperatures generally in the low 90s.
SUMMER PATTERN CONTINUES: Alabama’s weather won’t change much today; expect a high in the 88-92 degree range this afternoon with a few pop-up showers or storms this afternoon and early tonight. Chance of any one spot seeing rain today is around 30 percent, and most of the showers will come from 2:00 until 9:00 p.m.
HOT: Temperatures have reached the mid 90s again today across much of Alabama ahead of a surface front that is near I-20 at mid-afternoon. We note a couple of isolated showers over East Alabama, otherwise the front is coming through in dry fashion. Tonight will be clear and cooler…. temperatures drop into the 58-62 degree range early tomorrow.
ONE MORE HOT DAY: Temperatures rise into the 90-94 degree range across Alabama this afternoon with a partly to mostly sunny sky, but it will be our last really hot, summer-like day for a while thanks to a cold front that will pass through the state in dry fashion tonight. The high tomorrow will be near or just over 80 degrees with lower humidity
HOT SEPTEMBER DAY: Temperatures are in the mid 90s across much of Alabama this afternoon, about ten degrees above average, and not too far from record values for the 21st of September. No rain on radar, and the sky is mostly sunny. We reach the 91-94 degree range tomorrow with a partly to mostly sunny sky, but a cold front will come through in dry fashion tomorrow evening, and that will bring heat relief by Friday and the weekend.
MID 90s LATER TODAY: Temperatures will remain about ten degrees above average across Alabama today thanks to a large scale upper high over the region; we project a high in the mid 90s today with a good supply of hazy sunshine. The record high for today at Birmingham (September 21) is 98, set in 2010.
RADAR CHECK: We have a few small, isolated showers over East Alabama this afternoon, otherwise the sky is partly to mostly sunny with temperatures in the 90-94 degree range for most places. The isolated showers will end this evening, and the sky will be fair tonight with a low in the low 70s.
HOT SEPTEMBER DAYS: Temperatures reach the mid 90s across most of Alabama today and tomorrow thanks to a large upper high over the region; the sky will be partly to mostly sunny both days. There is actually some risk of a few very small, isolated showers or storms this afternoon during the heat of the day, but odds of any one spot getting wet are only 5-10 percent, so most places stay dry.
HOT AUGUST AFTERNOON: Temperatures are hovering in the 90-93 degree range across most of Alabama this afternoon with a partly to mostly sunny sky. Showers are widely spaced; most places are dry. Tonight will be mostly fair with a low in the 70s.
BENIGN LATE SUMMER WEATHER: Alabama’s weather looks fairly quiet this week; today will hot and humid with a few widely scattered showers or storms around this afternoon, much like yesterday. The high today will be in the low 90s in most places; it should be the hottest day of the week.
RADAR CHECK: Showers and storms are forming rapidly in scattered locations over the northern half of Alabama this afternoon. SPC maintains a “marginal risk” (level 1/5) of severe thunderstorms through the evening hours… some strong wind gusts are possible. Of course, all summer storms produce lots of lightning and heavy rain.
MOISTURE LEVELS RISING: After a very pleasant weekend, moisture levels will rise across Alabama today, and we will mention the chance of a few strong thunderstorms this afternoon ahead of a surface front dropping in from the north. SPC has defined a “marginal risk” (level 1/5) of severe thunderstorms for parts of North/Central Alabama due to the potential for strong winds with the heavier storms.
