RADAR CHECK: Rain is falling over the southern quarter of Alabama early this morning ahead of a surface low (non-tropical) over the northern Gulf of Mexico). This rain area will expand and move northward today, and by mid to late afternoon it will cover much of the state mainly along and south of I-59 (south of a line from Tuscaloosa to Birmingham to Gadsden).

RADAR CHECK: A persistent band of rain and storms is across Central Alabama this morning. Flash flood warnings are in effect for parts of Bibb, Chilton, Coosa, Talladega, Tallapoosa, Clay, Randolph, and Chambers counties where radar suggests some places have seen over 7 inches of rain over the past 36 hours. A flash flood watch remains in effect for the central counties of the state as well.

SPC maintains a “slight risk” (level 2/5) of severe thunderstorms for the southern quarter of Alabama today, south of a line from Grove Hill to Greenville to Troy. A “marginal risk” (level 1/5) extends as far north as Sweetwater, Prattville, and Opelika.

HIGH IMPACT WEATHER TONIGHT: Alabama’s weather will stay dry today with a partly sunny sky… expect highs in the 50s over the northern counties this afternoon, with 60s to the south. Clouds will increase late in the day.

A dynamic weather system will bring wind, rain, and thunderstorms to the state tonight. SPC maintains an enhanced risk (level 3/5) of severe storms tonight for areas south of a line from Millry to Evergreen to Brewton. A “slight risk” (level 2/5) extends as far north and east as Sweetwater, Greenville, and Geneva. A “marginal risk” is defined as far north as Tuscaloosa, but severe thunderstorms are not expected over North/Central Alabama with no surface based instability available.
