The more concentrated showers are over the southwest counties of the state at mid-afternoon… away from the summer rain temperatures are mostly in the low 90s. The average high for July 4 in Birmingham is 90. Scattered showers and storms end tonight after sunset.

Look for partly sunny, hot, humid days with random, scattered showers and thunderstorms firing up during the afternoon and evening hours. Most of the summer soakers will come from 2:00 until 10:00 p.m… and odds of any one place getting wet are in the 30-40 percent range most of the week.

Look for partly sunny days with highs in the 86-90 degree range. Random, scattered showers and storms will form mainly during the afternoon and evening hours, from roughly 2:00 until 10:00 p.m. We just can’t tell you in advance exactly when and where the storms fire up; for outdoor events just keep a close eye on radar trends.

RADAR CHECK: Random, scattered showers and thunderstorms are developing over the northern half of Alabama this afternoon, otherwise the sky is partly sunny with temperatures mostly in the upper 80s. Storms have been more widespread today over the southwest counties, where heavy rain was falling along the Alabama Gulf Coast at times this morning. Like recently days, storms this afternoon are slow movers and are producing heavy rain, gusty winds, and lots of lightning. Most of the showers and storms will dissipate by 10:00 tonight.

RADAR CHECK: As expected, a number of scattered showers and thunderstorms are developing over Central Alabama this afternoon; most of them are south of I-59, the approximate location of a stalled surface front. Like yesterday, stronger storms will be capable of producing heavy rain, gusty winds, small hail, and lots of lightning. Away from the storms, we have a mix of sun and clouds with temperatures in the mid to upper 80s over most of the state.

This means most of the showers and storms today, like yesterday, will be over the southern 2/3 of the state, but an isolated shower can’t be ruled out over North Alabama as well this afternoon.
