Possible Debris Ball on Radar

| December 31, 2010 @ 5:51 pm | 12 Replies

Frightening night in the Jackson MS area. JB is doing a great job keeping everyone informed.

I wanted to post this radar capture of what might be a possible debris ball showing up on the WSR-88D radar from Jackson. The storm is passing just south of Brandon. It will cross I-20 west of Forest shortly.

A debris ball is a round area of high reflectivity on Doppler radar at the end of a hook echo. It can indicate large items in the air, typically debris like trees, insulation, parts of houses, etc.
