At 424 PM CST, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Belmont, or near Red Bay, moving northeast at 55 mph. This line of storms has a history of producing confirmed tornadoes.
At 358 PM CST, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from Jumpertown to 7 miles southwest of Burton to near Houston, moving east at 55 mph. This line of storms has a history of producing damaging wind gusts and tornadoes.
All of North Alabama and parts of Central Alabama have been put under a Tornado Watch until 11:00 pm tonight.
A strong convective line capable of damaging wind gusts and tornadoes will continue across northeast/east-central MS into northwest/west-central AL over the next few hours.
ACTIVE NIGHT AHEAD: A dynamic weather system will push strong to severe thunderstorms through Alabama tonight. SPC maintains an “enhanced risk” (level 3/5) of severe storms for West Alabama… places like Tuscaloosa, Reform, Eutaw, York, Livingston, and Butler. A “slight risk” (level 2/5) covers the rest of the state.
We have a good bit of cloud cover across North/Central Alabama, but they are thin enough to allow sunshine to reach the surface and warm us up into the upper 60s to the mid-70s as of 2:10 pm.

Action has really picked up to our west and southwest as there are five active tornado warnings and three active severe thunderstorm warnings in parts of Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Texas. A tornado watch continues until 6:00 pm tonight.
The Storm Prediction Center has just released its latest Day 1 Convective Outlook and has upgraded portions of central and southwestern Mississippi and eastern Louisiana to a Moderate Risk (level 4 of 5) for severe storms.

All of Central Alabama will see a potential of strong to severe storms starting later this afternoon around 4:00 pm in the west and northwestern parts of the area and coming to an end in the east and southeastern parts of the area around 7:00 am Wednesday morning.
ACTIVE WEATHER AHEAD: We note a few small showers on radar across Central Alabama this morning, but a decent part of the day today will be dry; the sky will be mostly cloudy. A south wind will increase this afternoon, and we project a high in the low 70s today, well above the average high of 56 for December 16.
