Some threat for damaging wind gusts and QLCS tornadoes will continue into western Alabama this afternoon. The threat will generally be greater in west-central Alabama where moisture/buoyancy is greater.
While it is all quiet across North/Central Alabama as we approach 2 pm and the opening of our severe weather threat window, Central and East Mississippi are covered in Tornado and Severe Thunderstorm Warnings.

The Storm Prediction Center has issued a Tornado Watch effective immediately and is set to expire at 7 pm this evening for Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Marengo, Marion, Pickens, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, Walker, and Winston counties in Central Alabama, and for Colbert, Franklin, Lauderdale, and Lawrence counties in North Alabama.
Some increase in potential for damaging winds and QLCS tornadoes is expected through the afternoon. A watch will likely be considered in the next hour.
A very dynamic storm system is impacting the Deep South today as a severe weather outbreak is likely. These severe storms and the threat of flooding highlight the forecast for the rest of today and into the overnight hours.
