Storms moving through Jefferson and northern Shelby County are producing gusty winds, very heavy rain, dangerous lightning, and even some small hail, but they are not severe and should stay below severe limits.
Good bit of lightning with this activity, which appears it may be organizing into a mesoscale convective complex. Winds will gust to 40 mph and rainfall will be heavy. There will be small hail too.
The storms are not expected to be severe, but the stronger ones could produce small hail and 40 mph wind gusts in addition to the heavy rain.

As we have now hit the afternoon in Central Alabama, showers have moved into the northwest corner of the state and starting to cross the MS/AL state line to the south of that. For now, all of this activity is light.

SHOWERS RETURN LATER TODAY/TONIGHT: Alabama remains dry early this morning, but we are watching a band of rain and storms along the Mississippi River to the west. That activity will likely fizzle out this morning, but new showers will form this afternoon, moving into the northwest part of the state.
