Additional rain showers will remain possible through early tonight, but dry air takes over after midnight with a clearing sky.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Sunny pleasant days, clear cool nights. We project a low early Sunday in the 37-43 degree range, with mid 30s for the colder valleys and protected areas with potential for some frost. Highs will be in the mid 60s both days.

We should note a tight pressure gradient will set up a rather windy day tomorrow, with a north wind averaging 15-25 mph. Good day to fly a kite.

NEXT WEEK: Dry, pleasant weather continues Monday and Tuesday. A cold front will bring a chance of showers and thunderstorms Wednesday night; for now the severe weather potential looks low. Then, colder and drier arrives Thursday and Friday. The GFS continues to hint at lows in the low to mid 30s early Friday morning, April 8… growers and gardeners will need to keep an eye on temperature forecasts. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

AT THE BEACH: The weather will be dry on the coast tomorrow through early next week with sunny days and clear nights. See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.

STORM SURVEYS: Teams from the NWS Birmingham have identified two EF-1 tornado tracks in Pickens County, and another one (yet to be rated) in Blount County. It is likely other tornadoes moved through Lamar and Fayette Counties yesterday and last night.

STORM SPOTTER TRAINING: Storm Spotter Xtreme is coming up Saturday, April 9 at the BJCC from 9am to 2pm. This will feature both the basic and advanced SKYWARN classes, along with a session from Kevin Laws of the Birmingham NWS office. And, if you come, you get free admission to the Alabama International Auto Show, going on at the BJCC that same day. There is no cost and no need to register. Just show up with a curious mind. Kids 10 and older will also enjoy this if they love weather and want to learn more. Please help us make the severe weather warning process better!

We will have a basic spotter class at the Helena Community Center next Tuesday evening at 6:30.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
