Warm Week; Only Isolated Showers Today

| May 9, 2016 @ 6:40 am

QUIET MORNING: Temperatures are mostly in the 50s and 60s across North/Central Alabama this morning, and the sky is generally fair. We will see some clouds overhead today, but most communities will stay dry today with a high around 80 degrees this afternoon. Any showers that form this afternoon and tonight will be very isolated. Most of the significant weather action today and tonight will be well to the west, where SPC has an “enhanced risk” of severe storms defined around the ArkLaTex region…

TOMORROW AND WEDNESDAY: We are forecasting a mix of sun and clouds both days, with only widely scattered showers or storms. Temperatures will rise into the mid 80s both days; a few places could see upper 80s Wednesday. Chance of any one spot seeing a shower is only about 20 percent.

THURSDAY: The chance of showers and storms will rise thanks to an approaching cold front… the upper dynamics will be well to the north of Alabama, so no severe weather is expected. The high Thursday afternoon will be in the low 80s with only a limited amount of sun, and rain amounts should be generally under 1/2 inch.

FRIDAY: The best chance of showers and storms will shift down into South Alabama during the day; the sky becomes partly sunny over North/Central Alabama as drier air filters in. The high Friday will be close to 80.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Another fine forecast for Saturday and Sunday; ample sunshine both days with a high in the low 80s. Nights will be very pleasant; we drop into the 50s both mornings.

NEXT WEEK: Seems like the main storm track will stay north of our state, so while we could see a few showers and storms, the big rains will stay to the north. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

AT THE BEACH: The weather will be mostly dry on the coast from Panama City Beach over to Gulf Shores over the next seven days; only isolated showers and storms with highs around 80 on the immediate coast, with mid 80s inland. See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.

REGIONS TRADITION: The Regions Tradition will be held this year at the Greystone Golf and Country Club May 18-22… too early for a specific forecast, but climatology suggests highs in the 80s and lows in the 60s during that part of May. Get more information about the tournament here.
