Monday Midday Nowcast For North/Central Alabama

Currently, skies across much of North/Central Alabama feature a mix of sun and clouds. There is more cloud coverage across the western-half of the state, with a few spotty light showers showing up on radar in Franklin, Marion, Lamar, and Sumter counties. Rainfall coverage on radar appears to me more in coverage, but some of the returns are not reaching the ground.

Most of the rain activity is located back to our west. Mostly light rain is falling in Central Louisiana, Southern Mississippi, and Western Tennessee. Heavier rain activity is over Western Arkansas, Eastern Oaklahoma, Western and Southeastern Missouri, and Western Kentucky.

QUICK LOOK AT TEMPERATURES: Even with the cloud cover across much of the area at this time, most communities in the area are up in the 70s. Here is a list of temperature readings from across the state at this time:

Birmingham 72
Tuscaloosa 69
Muscle Shoals 73
Huntsville 73
Anniston 73
Alexander City 73
Montgomery 75
Dothan 77
Mobile 77

REST OF TODAY: Clouds will continue to build, and there is a risk for a shower across the area throughout the remainder of the afternoon and evening hours. Most areas should remain dry, as any showers that develop should be isolated in coverage. Afternoon highs will be at or near 80.

TUESDAY: A disturbance will pass north of the state, and so will most of the upper level forcing. This will keep our rain chances low for the day for much o the area. A mix of sun and clouds throughout the day, with only a slight chance of a widely scattered shower or thunderstorm. Afternoon highs will be in the mid to upper 80s.

REGIONS TRADITION: The Regions Tradition will be held this year at the Greystone Golf and Country Club May 18-22… too early for a specific forecast, but climatology suggests highs in the 80s and lows in the 60s during that part of May. Get more information about the tournament here.

WEATHERBRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40. You can find it here.
