RADAR CHECK: We are seeing a few echoes on radar this afternoon, but most of what you see is not reaching the ground…

Basically nothing more than a few sprinkles. Otherwise, the sky is mostly cloudy, with temperatures in the 70s (Birmingham’s average high for May 9 is 80.

TOMORROW/WEDNESDAY: The weather will be warmer with mid 80s likely both afternoons; some spots could see upper 80s Wednesday. We will forecast a mix of sun and clouds both days with only isolated showers or storms; most communities will be rain-free. The big storms will stay north and west of Alabama.

THURSDAY: This will be the day with the best chance of showers and storms thanks to an approaching front, but it won’t rain all day, and severe weather is not expected with the best dynamic forcing remaining far to the north. The high will be in the low 80s, and rain amounts should be under 1/2 inch.

FRIDAY: The best chance of showers will shift down into South Alabama; we expect a partly sunny sky over the northern half of the state with lower humidity and a high close to 80 degrees.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Looks great. Sunny Saturday; partly sunny Sunday. The high both days around 80 degrees, and nights will be cool with early morning lows in the 50s.

NEXT WEEK: Much like this week, the main dynamic support will remain north of Alabama, so while we might see a shower or storm around on a day or two, it looks like rain will remain rather light, and no significant chance of severe weather. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

AT THE BEACH: Mostly dry weather is the story on the coast from Gulf Shores over to Panama City Beach for the next seven days with a good deal of sunshine each day and only isolated showers or storms. Highs will be close to 80 on the immediate coast, with mid 80s inland. See a very detailed Gulf Coast forecast here.

REGIONS TRADITION: The Regions Tradition will be held this year at the Greystone Golf and Country Club May 18-22… too early for a specific forecast, but climatology suggests highs in the 80s and lows in the 60s during that part of May. Get more information about the tournament here.
