An all new edition of the ABC 33/40 Weather Xtreme video is available in the player below. You can subscribe to the Weather Xtreme video on iTunes by clicking here.

TODAY: As expected, today’s rain event for most of Alabama has been insignificant, with most spots getting under one tenth of an inch around Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Anniston, and Gadsden. In fact, most places have not had enough rain to measure. The exception is the northwest corner of the state, where parts of Lamar and Marion counties picked up over one inch. All of the rain will end this evening.

COOL WEEKEND: Sunshine returns in full force tomorrow and Sunday, and temperatures will be cool. We will need to adjust the numbers down… highs in the mid 60s tomorrow, and around 60 Sunday. Lows will drop into the upper 30s Sunday and mid 30s Monday. The colder valleys could see a light freeze both mornings, and frost early Monday could be pretty widespread.

NEXT WEEK: An active pattern is setting up next week, and nailing down the details is rather difficult at this point. Still looks like rain will move into the state on Tuesday, Veteran’s Day, and the 12Z GFS hints some rain could linger into Wednesday morning. Rain amounts to one-half inch will be possible with this event, but the bigger storm comes late in the week. A major storm system will bring rain and storms around Friday November 14, followed by a sharp change to colder weather for the following weekend. Watch the Weather Xtreme video and you will see the 12Z GFS hints at snow flurries over North Alabama on Saturday November 15.

We will be able to be much more specific on these systems over the weekend and early next week, that one around November 13-15 sure bears watching; there could be strong to severe storms involved along with heavy rain.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: For high school playoff games tonight, still a slight risk of a shower, mainly on the east side of the state. Auburn will host U. T. Martin for their homecoming game Saturday afternoon with a 1:30 kick off on PPV. It should be sunny with about 68 at kick off and in the 50s in the 4th quarter. Alabama is in Baton Rouge to play LSU at 2:30 Saturday on CBS. Mostly sunny, about 75 at kick off, and in the 60s in the second half. If you are driving down to Baton Rouge this afternoon or tonight, the rain has already ended in that area and the sky was clearing.

TROPICS: Hurricane Paloma is expected to reach the south coast of Cuba Sunday morning as a category two hurricane; from there is moves northeast across the Bahamas and into the open Atlantic as a remnant low. No impact on the Gulf of Mexico.

STORM ALERT XTREME: Want to be trained as a storm spotter? Want to join the ABC 33/40 Skywatcher team? Our annual training event, Storm Alert Xtreme, is coming up on Saturday November 15 at the BJCC during the annual Birmingham International Auto Show. You will be trained by the best SKYWARN trainer in the nation, our own Brian Peters (he has trained over 6,000 Alabama storm spotters over the years), and learn from one of the most brilliant weather researchers in the country, our own Dr. Tim Coleman. We encourage all of our Skywatchers to attend this every year; you simply cannot get enough training. We will begin at 9:30, and be out by 3:30. And, everyone that attends Storm Alert Xtreme gets free admission to the Alabama International Auto Show. There is no admission charge, and no need to register. Just show up, but get there early for a good seat. We had a packed house last year.

TWITTER: Don’t forget, you can follow our news and weather updates from ABC 33/40 on Twitter here. And, my personal Twitter feed is here if you want to keep up with my adventures in life. Twitter is a short messaging service you can receive via the web, cell phone, or IM.

My next Weather Xtreme video will be Monday morning… Brian Peters will have the video updates over the weekend… looks like a perfect weekend to enjoy the fall colors, which are now peaking across North Alabama!
