Advisories Will Be Re-Initiated on Now Tropical Depression Harvey at 10:00 AM

| August 23, 2017 @ 7:16 am

UPDATE (9:40 AM CDT): When advisories are issued at 10:00 AM, Harvey will be classified as a tropical depression.

The ghost of Tropical Storm Harvey has become better organized over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico and a tropical depression is forming.

The National Hurricane Center says that advisories will likely be re-initiated at 10 a.m. CDT on the system.

The model spaghetti plots are in fairly good agreement on a course toward the middle and upper Texas coast. The model guidance generally keeps it a tropical storm, which is probably because the big disorganized system will have a hard time intensifying rapidly despite warm water and low shear.

Heavy rain will be the main story, with 2 to 3 FEET of rain possible according to the model guidance over southeastern Texas and southwestern Louisiana.

Alabama could very well feel the effects of Harvey with heavy rain into early next week.
