Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for Jefferson & Northern Shelby Counties Until 6:30 PM

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for Poor Drainage Areas for Northern Shelby & Jefferson County until 6:30 PM CDT.

At 234 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms about to move into metro Birmingham, including north Shelby County. This will cause urban and small stream flooding. Overflowing poor drainage areas will result in minor flooding in the advisory area.

Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Birmingham, Hoover, Vestavia Hills, Bessemer, Homewood, Pelham, Mountain Brook, Trussville, Helena, Hueytown, Gardendale, Irondale, Leeds, Moody, Fairfield, Chelsea, Fultondale, Center Point, Pleasant Grove and Clay.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.
