One More Dry Day Before Rain Returns

| April 20, 2018 @ 3:21 pm

SEVERE CLEAR: Nothing but sunshine across Alabama this afternoon with temperatures in the 67-70 degree range for most communities. Tonight will be clear and cool with a low in the 40s.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: We will squeeze out one more nice day tomorrow; the sky will be partly to mostly sunny with a high between 72 and 75. Clouds will increase tomorrow night, and rain will move in Sunday morning ahead of an approaching low pressure area. Expect widespread rain Sunday afternoon into Sunday night; the air will be stable across the northern half of the state and we probably won’t have much thunder. However, there will be a bit of instability across parts of South Alabama where SPC has a “marginal risk” of severe storms defined… this is for areas south of a line from Demopolis to Greenville to Dothan…

This will be a good rain event; rain amounts of 2-3 inches are likely from Sunday through Monday over much of the state.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Alabama’s annual spring “A Day” game is tomorrow at 1:00 at Bryant Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa… it will be a perfect day for the game. With a sunny sky, temperatures will rise from the low 70s at kickoff into the mid 70s by the second half. There is no risk of rain.

NEXT WEEK: An upper trough will develop and linger across the Southeast U.S., meaning a chance of rain at times Monday and Tuesday with highs generally in the upper 60s. Most of the state should be dry Wednesday and Thursday, then a cold front will bring another chance of showers late in the week Friday. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.
