A Quick Check On Our Weather Situation Just After 1:00 PM

| April 26, 2018 @ 1:27 pm

As of 1:05 PM, much of the main focus of the rainfall has now shifted over into the southeastern parts of Central Alabama and into western Georgia, while a few scattered showers are wrapping around the backside of the low. Those showers are mainly affecting parts of Jefferson, Tuscaloosa, Walker, Winston, and Marion counties, with a few lighter showers over parts of Fayette, Pickens and Lamar counties. No lightning is being detected in these showers at this point, but a clap or two of thunder is possible.

Please remember that if it is raining to slow down out there on the roadways and highways. Turn those headlights on, keep a smart distance in between you and the vehicle in front of you, and please use your turning signals. Not doing these things greatly increases your risks of being involved in an accident while driving, and increasing the risks of those around you as well.

The Storm Prediction Center has pretty much removed all of Central Alabama from the Marginal Risk of severe storms throughout the remainder of the day today, with only the extreme southeastern locations still defined in that risk. Much of the rest of Central Alabama is clear of any organized severe weather threat. The good news is that no one in the area has been placed in a severe weather warning or a significant weather advisory.

As the main line of showers and a few embedded thunderstorms continue to move out of the state, we’ll continue to have the risk of scattered showers and maybe a few claps of thunder throughout the remainder of the daylight hours. All rain will have either moved out of the state and our chances will have diminished by 7-8PM tonight. Afternoon highs will top out in the lower 60s in the northwest to the mid-70s in the southeast. All of Central Alabama should dry out by the late evening and we’ll be left with partly to mostly cloudy skies throughout the rest of the night and into the pre-dawn hours on Friday. Lows will bottom out in the upper 40s to the lower 50s.

We finally get a great and dry weekend, and Friday will be a wonderful weather day to start that off. We’ll have partly cloudy to mostly clear skies throughout Central Alabama, and afternoon highs will top out in the lower to mid-70s. If you are heading out to Talladega to watch any of the on-track activity, you will have no weather issues at all. Always pack the sunscreen, shades, and hat just in case you get a good bit of clearing that allows extended periods of sun.
