Few, If Any Showers Through The Weekend

| May 10, 2018 @ 5:50 am

GETTING DRY AROUND HERE: Today will be the 14th consecutive day with no measurable rain for Birmingham (based on data at Birmingham-Shttlesworth Airport). The total since January 1 is 21.87″, and our surplus for the year is down to 1.42″. We note Anniston now has a deficiency of 1.47″ for 2018.

So, while we do need rain, don’t expect anything really significant today. We will mention the chance of isolated showers or storms this afternoon, but the chance of any one spot getting wet will be 10 percent or less. Otherwise, today will be partly to mostly sunny with a high between 87 and 90 degrees.

TOMORROW THROUGH THE WEEKEND: We should mention the last time Birmingham hit 90 degrees was on September 28, 2017… 224 days ago. A good chance 90 degrees will be reached either tomorrow or over the weekend as dry, hot weather continues. Sunny days, fair nights, highs around 90 tomorrow, followed by low 90s over the weekend. It will be the hottest weekend so far this year.

NEXT WEEK: Monday will stay dry with a high around 90, but the chance of showers will increase Tuesday and on through mid-week as a trough lifts northward from the Gulf of Mexico. Highs drop into the low 80s then due to clouds and showers… see the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

TODAY IN MONTGOMERY: Ever been fascinated by hurricanes or wondered how in the world people fly safely into them? Have a passion for flying and love viewing various aircraft? As part of a week-long tour along the Gulf Coast, the NOAA Hurricane Hunters will be making a stop at the Montgomery Regional Airport (Dannelly Field) today. Come tour two of the Hurricane Hunter aircraft, speak with the pilots, and walk through vendor exhibits from various local agencies and organizations. The event is FREE to the public… public tours will be held from 2:00 until 5:00 p.m. this afternoon.

REGIONS TRADITION: The Regions Tradition will be May 16-20 at the beautiful Greystone Golf & Country Club! Make plans to attend one of the majors of the PGA Champions Tour! You can see legendary golfers Bernhard Langer, John Daly, Vijay Singh, and more tee it off with Nick Saban, Gus Malzahn, Bo Jackson, and other celebrities in the NCR Pro-AM. Juniors 18 & under are admitted free with a ticketed adult, and five-day grounds tickets are $80. Single day grounds tickets are $20. GET YOUR TICKETS HERE!!!
