Hot Weekend Ahead; Rain Returns By Tuesday

| May 11, 2018 @ 3:04 pm

SEVERE CLEAR: Nothing but sunshine across the great state of Alabama this afternoon; temperatures are generally in the 87-90 degree range again. No rain on radar.

HOT WEEKEND AHEAD: Our weather stays dry tomorrow and Sunday; it will be the hottest weekend so far this year with highs in the low 90s. Sunny days, fair nights.

NEXT WEEK: Monday will be another dry day with ample sunshine, but a broad low in the Gulf of Mexico will move up into the Florida Panhandle Tuesday, and will pull deep tropical moisture into the state. A few periods of rain are likely Tuesday and Wednesday; highs drop back into the low 80s with only a limited amount of sunshine. The low will slowly dissipate over Alabama late in the week, but showers will remain possible Thursday and Friday. No risk of severe storms, and rain amounts Tuesday through Friday should be fairly close to one inch for most Alabama communities.

This is rain we need; today is the 15th consecutive day with no measurable rain at Birmingham (based on data at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth Airport, where the records are kept). See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

ON THIS DATE IN 2008: An EF-1 tornado moved through Heflin in Cleburne County; hundreds of trees were either snapped off or uprooted along the path. Several structures sustained damage and at least 6 of the structures were destroyed. At least 35 homes suffered varying degrees of damage. No injuries were reported.

REGIONS TRADITION: The Regions Tradition will be May 16-20 at the beautiful Greystone Golf & Country Club! Make plans to attend one of the majors of the PGA Champions Tour! You can see legendary golfers Bernhard Langer, John Daly, Vijay Singh, and more tee it off with Nick Saban, Gus Malzahn, Bo Jackson, and other celebrities in the NCR Pro-AM. Juniors 18 & under are admitted free with a ticketed adult, and five-day grounds tickets are $80. Single day grounds tickets are $20. GET YOUR TICKETS HERE!!!
