High Temperatures in Record Territory Today and Monday Across Central Alabama

| May 13, 2018 @ 9:20 am

Happy Mother’s Day to all our moms out there! Today is the day that we choose to remember your sacrifice and love for us, but we feel it every day!

GREAT WEATHER FOR MOTHER’S DAY: We ordered up some really special weather for all you moms out there, although they sent it in the “hot” size. Just stay cool out there today, enduing the lower 90s. At least the humidity isn’t out of control, yet. No showers, few if any clouds today. Lows tonight will be in the middle 60s for the most part.

RECORD TERRITORY: Temperatures so far for May have run 5 degrees above normal on average. Today and Monday’s highs in the lower and middle 90s are some 10-15 degrees above normal. This will put us in record territory both days. Record highs for today include:

Birmingham 95F
Montgomery 96F
Tuscaloosa 95F
Anniston 94F

Sunday Forecast Highs

We are going to be very close today at all those locations with all four locations ending up within a degree or two of the record.

Tomorrow may be a slightly better chance for record highs.

Birmingham 92F
Montgomery 96F
Tuscaloosa 92F
Anniston 93F

Monday Forecast Highs

I think all the locations in the I-20 corridor may break their records on Monday. Montgomery may be miss theirs by 2-3 degrees.

HOW RARE IS THIS HEAT? Warm and glorious weather is no stranger to May in Central Alabama, but 90s are not common. In fact, 90s occur only on about 2-7% of the mid-May days at Birmingham. Climate records date back to 1895.
