Central Etowah County in northeastern Alabama…

* Until 345 PM CDT.

* At 1240 PM CDT, emergency management reported thunderstorms with
heavy rain causing localized flooding that is impacting homes and
roadways in the Gadsden metro area. The heavy rain will cause
flooding. Up to three inches of rain have already fallen.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Gadsden, Rainbow City, Attalla, Glencoe, Reece City, Gadsden Mall,
Noccalula Falls, Gadsden Steam Plant, Big Wills Creek, Gadsden
Water Works and Gadsden Municipal Airport.

Additional rainfall amounts of up to two inches are possible in the
warned area.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as
well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.
