Cool, Sun-Filled Saturday

| November 16, 2019 @ 12:00 pm

The pesky upper-level low that caused a foul Friday of weather for much of Alabama, pulled away from the state overnight, and that has finally allowed drier air to filter into the state. Despite some early morning clouds across eastern portions of the state, the sky is clear and full of sunshine as we head into the afternoon hours.

After starting the day in the 20s and 30s, we are all seeing temperatures climb into the upper 50s and lower 60s this afternoon across North/Central Alabama. A picture, perfect mid-November Saturday for Alabama.

COLD NIGHT AHEAD: The clear sky tonight will allow temps to drop off pretty quick after sunset this evening. By tomorrow morning, we should see all locations down into the lower and mid 30s, with some upper 20s in those colder spots.

FOR OUR SUNDAY: Another good-looking day of weather for Alabama. After the cold start, we are going to see more sun than clouds with temperatures likely making it into the lower 60s for much of North/Central Alabama.

IN THE TROPICS: An area of low pressure is expected to form a few hundred miles northeast of the Leeward Islands late this weekend or early next week. Some development is possible thereafter while the system moves northwestward and then northward over the open Atlantic. The disturbance is forecast to merge with a frontal system later next week and further development is unlikely after that time. Formation chance through 5 days…low…20 percent.

BEACH FORECAST CENTER: Get the latest weather and rip current forecasts for the beaches from Fort Morgan to Panama City on our Beach Forecast Center page. There, you can select the forecast of the region that you are interested in visiting.

CONTIGUOUS TEMPERATURE EXTREMES: Over the last 24 hours, the highest observation was 89F at Winterhaven, CA. The lowest observation was -9F at Mount Washington, NH.

WEATHER ON THIS DATE IN 1959: The most severe November cold wave in U.S. history was in progress. A weather observing station located 14 miles northeast of Lincoln MT reported a reading of 53 degrees below zero, which established an all-time record low temperature for the nation for the month of November. Their high that day was one degree above zero.
