1PM Update: Storms Developing Fast

| June 27, 2020 @ 12:59 pm

The radar is getting active as we roll into the afternoon hours. Storms are developing fast and tracking off to the east-northeast fast as well. These storms are producing gusty winds, intense rainfall, and frequent lightning, and perhaps some small hail. Most of the storms at this time are around the Birmingham Metro and off to the north and northeast of there.

At this time, no storms are currently severe, but a couple of severe storms cannot be ruled out this afternoon with ample instability in place. A reminder the SPC maintains a “marginal risk” (level 1/5) for severe storms across most of Alabama for the rest of today. Any storm today could produce marginally severe hail and strong, damaging wind gusts to 60 mph. So again, don’t be surprise if a warning or two pops on the radar this afternoon. Stay weather aware the rest of today.
