Dry Through The Weekend; Eyes On Eta

| November 4, 2020 @ 3:06 pm

FABULOUS AFTERNOON: Another delightful fall day for Alabama with sunshine in full supply and temperatures mostly in the low 70s, right at seasonal averages for early November. Tonight will be clear with a low in the 40s.

The weather will stay dry tomorrow and Friday; mostly sunny both days with highs in the low to mid 70s.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Dry weather continues. Partly sunny days, fair nights Saturday and Sunday with highs in the 74-78 degree range; lows between 58 and 64.

NEXT WEEK: Dry weather will likely continue Monday and Tuesday, but rain will return Wednesday, and possibly Thursday. But, the timing and amount of rain is very much up in the air as a tropical system is involved (Eta). Highs will hold in the 70s through the week… See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

TROPICS: Tropical Storm Eta continues to weaken over Central America; winds are down to 45 mph this afternoon. The system will move back into the Caribbean by Friday, and the latest NHC forecast has the system near Key West, over the extreme Southeast Gulf of Mexico, Monday morning.

Long range global models hint that Eta could move into the eastern or central Gulf by the middle of next week, but there is no way to know the exact track or intensity at this point. Once the system gets back over water and becomes better organized, we will have a better handle on what happens next week.

The rest of the Atlantic basin is quiet.

ON THIS DATE IN 1935: Called the Yankee Hurricane, this Category 2 storm affected the Bahamas and South Florida. This storm remains the only tropical cyclone to hit Miami from the Northeast in November.

ON THIS DATE IN 1959: A rare, F0 tornado caused minor damage near Cape St. Elias Light Station on Kayak Island, Alaska.
