Sprinkles Tonight; Cooler Tomorrow
THIS AFTERNOON: Clouds are gradually increasing across Alabama this afternoon ahead of a disturbance to the west; this feature will bring the chance of a few sprinkles of rain to the state tonight and early tomorrow, but moisture is very limited and most places won’t see any rain. The low tomorrow morning will be close to 40 degrees.
Lingering clouds tomorrow morning will give way to a partly sunny afternoon… the day will be cooler with a high between 55 and 60 degrees over the northern half of the state. The sky will be clear tomorrow night, and some of the colder spots will see a light freeze early Sunday, when temperatures will drop into the 30-35 degree range. Then, during the day Sunday, the sky will be sunny with a high in the low to mid 60s.
NEXT WEEK: An upper ridge over the Gulf of Mexico will build northward into the region, and the week looks rain-free with a warming trend. Look for mostly sunny days and fair nights… the high Monday will be in the upper 60s, followed by low 70s Tuesday and Wednesday. ON THIS DATE IN 1963: An EF4 tornado moved through the Birmingham metro area. It first touched down in the southwest part of Bessemer and then moved northeast through the Oxmoor Valley and Bluff Park before lifting in Homewood. Most of the damage was in the first 2 miles of the tornado’s path in Bessemer. Over 200 buildings were damaged, 29 were destroyed, and 25 had major damage. Outside of Bessemer, 40 buildings were damaged. There were 35 injuries and no fatalities.
ON THIS DATE IN 1989: A F2 tornado killed one person and injured six others in Heard County, Georgia. A stronger, F3 tornado injured 23 persons and caused more than 5 million dollars damage around Grantville, Georgia.
