Late Evening Look at the Alabama Weather Situation

| March 27, 2021 @ 10:57 pm

All quiet across Alabama at this hour with no precipitation echoes showing up across our state on area radars.

Skies are mostly cloudy in areas northwest of I-59 with partly cloudy skies to the southeast.

Temperatures are in the 70s areawide. Dewpoints are in the 60s.

Storms continue tonight from Nashville to Memphis to near Shreveport and on into Northeast Texas. Those storms are ahead of a cold front that will be pushing southeast overnight. The storms are congealing into a squall line. The coverage appears to be increasing, as will the damaging wind threat as we go through the overnight hours. The tornado threat has lessened a bit but is not gone, and there are two tornado warnings currently in effect, including one just northwest of Oxford MS, and another southeast of Jackson, Tennessee.

The SPC just noted that another severe weather watch may be needed later tonight into northwestern and northern Alabama as the damaging wind threat, as well as the threat of isolated tornadoes, will last into the early morning hours.

The storms should reach Northwest Alabama between 2-3 a.m. The line will reach Huntsville and Jasper by 4-5 a.m. and the I-59 Corridor by 6-7 a.m.

Make sure you have your Weatheradio turned on and in alert mode overnight. Make sure your Do Not Disturb is turned off for any warnings that are delivered to your smartphone. And know where you will go if a warning is issued. Remember, that severe thunderstorms can knock down trees that can kill, even in your home.

We will have frequent updates and alerts throughout the night and Sunday here on the AlabamaWX blog.
