Periods Of Rain Tomorrow; Cooler
RADAR CHECK: Rain is falling over parts of Southwest Alabama this afternoon… the rest of the state is dry with a partly sunny sky. Temperatures are in the mid 80s over parts of North and Central Alabama where the sun is out; the southern counties are in the 70s because of clouds. Rain and thunderstorms will increase over Southwest Alabama tonight, and there will be periods of rain statewide tomorrow. A few heavier thunderstorms are likely over Mobile and Baldwin counties, where SPC continues a low end, “marginal risk” (level 1/5) of severe thunderstorms. But, there won’t be any severe weather problems for most of the state.
The best chance of rain over the northern half of the state will come tomorrow afternoon, and the day will be cooler with highs in the low 70s for most places.
THURSDAY THROUGH THE WEEKEND: Some rain is still possible into Thursday morning over the southern half of the state… North/Central Alabama will be generally dry, but clouds will linger through the day. Thursday’s high will be in the 65-69 degree range, almost ten degrees below average for mid-April. The daytime hours Friday look dry for most of the state, but we will mention a chance of light rain Friday night as another disturbance passes through. Then, on Saturday, the best chance of showers will be confined to the far southern counties. Most of Alabama will be dry over the weekend… the sky will feature more clouds than sun Saturday and Sunday with highs between 65 and 70 degrees.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Both Auburn and Alabama will hold their annual spring scrimmage games Saturday. The game in Tuscaloosa kicks off at 12 Noon… kickoff in Auburn is set for 1:00. At both stadiums, we believe the weather will be dry, but the sky will be mostly cloudy. Temperatures will be in the 65-69 degree range in Tuscaloosa and Auburn Saturday afternoon.
ON THIS DATE IN 2006: An F2 tornado hit Iowa City, Iowa and trekked across other Southeast parts of the University of Iowa campus doing 15+ million dollars damage hurting 30 people and damaging or destroying 1051 buildings. The roof/steeple/ bricks fell from the St. Patrick’s Church shortly after 75 parishioners had taken to the rectory basement next door.
