Dry Weather For Alabama Through Sunday
ANOTHER COOL NIGHT AHEAD: The sky is partly to mostly sunny across Alabama this afternoon with temperatures mostly in the 68-74 degree range, well below the average high of 81 for May 13. Tonight will be clear and cool… most communities over the northern half of the state go down in the 40s early tomorrow morning. It should be the last morning with lows in the 40s until sometime in October.
The weather will stay dry tomorrow through Sunday with a warming trend… look for a high in the mid 70s tomorrow, upper 70s Saturday, and low 80s Sunday. Expect sunshine in full supply tomorrow and Saturday; the sky will be partly to mostly Sunday.
NEXT WEEK: Moisture levels will rise, and the week will be warm and humid with a high in the low to mid 80s most days. There will be sufficient moisture for a few widely scattered showers or storms just about every day, but an upper ridge will keep the most widespread and heaviest rain west of Alabama. ON THIS DATE IN 1980: An F3 tornado ripped directly through the center of Kalamazoo, Michigan, killing five people, injuring 79, leaving 1,200 homeless and causing $50 million in damage. The tornado passed directly over the American Bank, where a barograph reported a pressure drop of 0.59 inches.
ON THIS DATE IN 1995: Severe thunderstorms produced tornadoes extending from the Mississippi River near Burlington, Iowa, to the west of Bloomington, Illinois. Two violent tornadoes, each ranked at F4 intensity, were reported. The first tornado traveled 60 miles from near Fort Madison, Iowa, to the southeast of Galesburg, Illinois producing over $10 million damage. The town of Raritan, Illinois was hit the hardest. The second violent tornado traveled 7 miles across Fulton County from Ipava to Lewistown, Illinois producing $6 million damage.
