NWS Huntsville has issued a Heat Advisory starting at 11 am Wednesday and is set to expire at 9 pm Thursday night for the following counties in North Alabama: Colbert, Cullman, Franklin, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Marshall, and Morgan.

Heat index values will exceed 105º in the advisory area during the late morning through the evening hours on both Wednesday and Thursday. These values will be high enough to potentially cause heat illnesses to occur.

• Drink plenty of fluids
• Stay in an air-conditioned room
• Stay out of the sun
• Do not leave children or pets unattended inside a vehicle

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 911.
