The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a

* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for…
Northeastern Cherokee County in northeastern Alabama…

* Until 600 PM CDT.

* At 253 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding.
Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include…
Cedar Bluff, Little River Canyon National Preserve, Gaylesville,
Blanche, Cornwall Furnace Park, Little River Falls, Eastern Weiss
Lake, Western Weiss Lake, Broomtown, Fullerton, New Moon,
Chesterfield and Waterhouse.

Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are expected over the
area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate route.

Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law
enforcement and request they pass this information to the National
Weather Service when you can do so safely.
