Tornado Watch Issued for Portions of Central Alabama Until 6pm This Evening

NWS Birmingham, along with the SPC, has issued a Tornado Watch until 6 pm for the following counties in Central Alabama: Autauga, Bibb, Chilton, Dallas, Greene, Hale, Lowndes, Marengo, Perry, and Sumter.

• A few tornadoes likely
• Isolated hail up to ping pong size possible
• Scattered wind gusts up to 70 mph likely

Here is the text of the watch from the SPC:

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

• Tornado Watch for portions of
— Southwest Alabama
— Southeast Mississippi

• Effective this Sunday morning and evening from 1045 AM until
600 PM CST.

• Primary threats include…
— A few tornadoes likely, with a couple intense tornadoes possible
— Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph likely
— Isolated large hail events to 1.5 inches in diameter possible

SUMMARY… Thunderstorms are intensifying over southeast Mississippi, and other storms are likely to form farther east into southwest Alabama through the afternoon. Conditions appear favorable for a few supercell storms, capable of isolated tornadoes and/or damaging wind gusts.

REMEMBER… A Tornado Watch means conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible warnings.
