Quick Update at 7 a.m.

| January 16, 2022 @ 7:07 am

Have had a couple of false starts on the video this morning, but the third time’s a charm, right? Look for the video to be up by 7:45. It will be chock full of weather fun.

A quick update on the Alabama weather situation:

…Snow is falling across much of Sumter and parts of Marengo counties at this hour. Snow will accumulate quickly to 1-2 inches in the heavier snow bursts.
…Already an inch of snow on the ground in Sumter County, with accidents reported on I-20/59.
…Just received a report of 1.75 inches of snow in the northern portion of Meridian.

This heavy snow is associated with dynamic cooling accompanying the very cold temperatures aloft at the core of the upper low which is moving into western Alabama.

The snowfall will move northeast with the upper low, which will be pushing into Georgia by early afternoon.

Roads will become snow-covered and slippery quickly in the heavier snow bursts.

Winter weather advisories are in effect now for much of North Central Alabama, where up an inch of snow may fall with some locations getting heavier amounts.

Northeast Alabama could see 2-4 inches of snow in the winter storm warning area.

Check conditions before leaving this morning. Snow could cause big problems getting home by mid to late morning across the advisory area.
