| February 27, 2022 @ 6:47 am

TODAY’S WEATHER: A shortwave moving through the area today will continue to bring showers to Central Alabama as it pushes southeastward. Rain will start to end in the northwest this morning and all rain should be out of here by sunset. Highs will be in the upper 40s to the lower 60s.

THE WORK WEEK AHEAD: Ridging starts to move into the area on Monday, bringing us plenty of sunshine and warmer temperatures. Highs will be in the upper 50s to the mid 60s. The first day of March, also known as the first day of Meteorological Spring, will feature mostly sunny skies with highs in the lower 60s to the lower 70s. Much of the same story on Wednesday… Sunny skies with highs warming on up into the upper 60s to the mid 70s. We’ll be even warmer on Thursday underneath sunny skies. Highs in the lower 70s to close to 80 degrees. Staying dry and even warmer on Friday as highs will be in the mid 70s to the lower 80s.

NEXT WEEKEND: Moisture will start to be pulled up over the southeast on Saturday that will bring some clouds to Central Alabama, but for now, we look to stay dry. Highs will be in the mid 70s to the lower 80s. A front will be slowly pushing southward on next Sunday, but will get hung up just to our north. However, it will be close enough to bring some shower activity to the northern half of Central Alabama. No effect on the temperatures, as highs will continue to be in the mid 70s to the lower 80s.

LAST DAY FOR 2022 ALABAMA SEVERE WEATHER PREPAREDNESS SALES TAX HOLIDAY: The state of Alabama is holding a sales tax holiday for severe weather preparedness items, and today is the last day. Don’t miss this great opportunity to purchase any items you may be missing from your emergency kit. You can find out if your city/town is participating by clicking here.

ON THIS DAY IN WEATHER HISTORY: 2010 — A weak EF0 tornado causes no damage as it moved across California’s southern San Joaquin Valley. However, it is the only tornado reported in the United States during the month. According to the Storm Prediction Center, only five months since 1950 have lacked a tornado report.
