Midday Nowcast: Generally Sunny and Cool

After the freezing start, we are seeing many locations in the 50s this afternoon, with a mainly sunny sky. There are some upper-level cirrus clouds floating through the Alabama sky, but that is about it. Tonight will be partly cloudy, with lows mainly in the mid 30s. More clouds will show up in the sky tomorrow as our winds gradually shift from the south; highs tomorrow reach the low 60s.

WEEKEND WEATHER: A surface front will drift into the state and stall out, meaning our weather for the weekend will be mostly cloudy with some rain at times. Not a “washout” at all, but just occasional showers. There could be a few rumbles of thunder at times, but there is no risk of severe storms. Just plan for some rain from time to time Saturday and Sunday with highs in the 60s. Rain amounts over the weekend will average around one-half inch.

NEXT WEEK: The surface boundary begins to lift north, Monday through Wednesday our weather will remain unsettled with more clouds than sun and the risk of showers on a daily basis. With southerly winds, the weather will be mild with highs in the 60s and 70s. A front pushes through the area to end the week, and cooler, drier air will filter into the state Thursday and Friday. No signs of severe weather or any bitterly cold Arctic air around here for the next 7-10 days.
