Midday Nowcast: Winter is Back!

| February 17, 2023 @ 10:15 am

A cold front swept through the state overnight bringing widespread rain and storms, but thankfully, the severe weather threat never truly materialized over Alabama yesterday. Behind the front, the weather has turned sharply colder today. Morning showers and clouds will be giving way to a clearing sky this afternoon, and despite the sunshine, temperatures will struggle to make it out of the 40s this afternoon. Add in a brisk north wind, and it is feeling colder out there today. Tonight will be clear and cold, with a widespread freeze as temperatures will drop into the 20s by tomorrow morning.

WEEKEND WEATHER: After the cold start, tomorrow will be sunny day with highs in the mid to upper 50s. Sunday will be warming with a sun-filled sky, most communities will be in the 60s Sunday afternoon.

NEXT WEEK: The warmest weather so far in 2023 arrives next week. The weather looks relatively dry as a ridge builds in across Alabama and the Deep South. The days will feature a mix of sun and clouds, with low 70s Monday and Tuesday, by midweek, 80s are in the forecast. Rain chances are not zero, but are relatively low, with only a few isolated showers possible on a daily basis.

VOODOOLAND: Long range models shows several rounds of rain and storms over the next several weeks, which is normal for Alabama this time of year. No signs of bitterly cold air showing up long range, but we know, that we still have a lot of winter left. Despite, the warm weather next week, don’t go catching spring fever yet!!!
