Hurricane Hunters Find Lee As Strong As We Thought

After an amazing 24 hours of strengthening that saw Lee intensify 55 mph from 75 to 130 mph and its central pressure estimate to drop from 991 mb to 953 mb, Lee may already be a Category Five hurricane.

The Hurricane Hunters just measured a 131 knot 30 second average flight level wind, which translates to 136 mph.

They measured a 10 second gust of 140 knots which translates to about 145 mph.

The Stepped Frequency Microwave Radiometer measured a reliable surface wind of 144 knots of 166 mph.

Lee may already be a Cat Five.
