Watching the Weather Early on this Friday Morning

| March 15, 2024 @ 12:52 am

New severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Jackson and Madison Counties in North Alabama and southeastern Franklin County in Tennessee.

Severe thunderstorm along the Madison/Jackson County line in Northeast Alabama. The storms are most intense near Gurley and Paint Rock.

They will pass over AL-65 in western Jackson County between Swaim, Hollytree, and Trenton. It will cross AL-790 between Hytop, Skyline, and Pleasant Groves.

One inch hail is indicated with the wet bulb zero height at about 9,300 feet, which is low enough to be supportive of hail.

And winds could gust to near 60 mph. Winds to at least 60 mph are indicated just 750 feet off the ground approaching Hollytree and Trenton.

Thunderstorms have moved out of Marshall County and are near N-59 in DeKalb County north of Fort Payne.

We will have a break for a couple of hours until a line of storms over Central Arkansas, northeastern Mississippi and western Tennessee will drop into Northwest Alabama around 4 a.m.

These storms will have the potential to produce damaging winds to 60 mph and some hail. Tornadoes do not look like a significant threat.

Timing will be 4-8 AM over Northwest Alabama in places like the Shoals, Hamilton, Jasper, Huntsville/Decatur and Scottsboro.

7-11 am for Jasper, Tuscaloosa, Demopolis, Birmingham, Gadsden, and Anniston.

10 am – 2 pm for Selma, Montgomery, Alex City, and Auburn.

1 – 5 pm: Troy and Eufaula.

2-3 inches of rain may fall on Friday over the northern half of Alabama which could produce some local flooding. The flooding threat was diminished somewhat however.

I will have a more complete update within the hour.
