Midday Nowcast: Sunshine and Blue Sky through Mother’s Day Weekend

FINALLY FRIDAY: A drier, cooler, and refreshing airmass is dropping into Alabama today. The morning rain and storms have exited the state, and many of us are seeing a blue sky with tons of sunshine. Highs this afternoon are generally in the low 80s for most locations. Tonight, a clear sky and refreshing night is ahead with overnight lows in the lower 50s for most North/Central Alabama communities. Colder spots across North Alabama could easily dip into the 40s Saturday morning.

BIRMINGHAM ALMANAC: For May 10th, the average high for Birmingham is 81° and the average low is 59°. The record high is 94° set in 1896, while the record low is 38° set in 1966. We average 0.16” of precipitation on this date, and the record value is 1.46” set in 1935.

MOTHER’S DAY WEEKEND: An incredible weekend of weather across the Deep South for all the moms out there. We are forecasting highs mostly in the 70s, with lows in the 50s. Both days will feature mainly sunny conditions, with very low humidity. Enjoy moms!!!

NEXT WEEK: Clouds ands scattered shower return Monday, and the week looks rather unsettled with showers and perhaps a few storms possible each day. Rain amounts through the week could exceed five to six inches over South Alabama, with over two inches possible for the northern counties of the state.

For now we don’t see any major signal of severe thunderstorm potential. Highs will be mostly in the low 80s and it will be rather muggy.
