Storms Now Developing in Corridor from Eastern Arkansas to Central Alabama

| May 24, 2024 @ 4:35 pm

The Storm Prediction Center is monitoring storms that have developed from near Stuttgart and Forrest City in eastern Arkansas to near Aberdeen MS to just west of Birmingham.

They formed along an outflow boundary from the morning storms over North Alabama.

South of that boundary, CAPEs are over 3,000 joules/kg. There is modest bulk shear and the storms look organized.

1″ hail was reported at Samantha in northern Tuscaloosa County earlier from the storm that is now moving into the Birmingham area, when it was severe.

The storm right now in Monroe County MS is just south of Smithville. It will move into Lamar County, Alabama in the next 30 minutes but may fall apart before it does. It has weakened substantially.

The Birmingham storms are weakening as well.

It is warm. 90F in Demopolis last hour. Temperature at the Bessemer Airport fell from 86 to 77 as the outflow from the western Jefferson County storms reached there.
