Watches May Be Expanded in Coverage As Severe Weather Threat Persists

| May 27, 2024 @ 2:38 am

New weather watch issuance may be required as the convection expands southeastward into northern Mississippi and Alabama. This threat should remain limited to central portions of Alabama and into Georgia.

Strong and locally severe storms continue within the mentioned areas, with a risk of locally damaging winds, hail, and isolated tornadoes. The ongoing convection is fueled by an unstable environment with mixed-layer CAPE ranging from 3000 to 5000 J/kg, particularly intense over the Arklatex region. This dynamic weather system is slowly shifting eastward, impacting areas under Tornado Watch 328 and 329 in the coming hours. Additionally, new storms are developing in northwestern Alabama, adding to the overall risk of severe weather across the region.
