Recap of Alabama Storms on Friday, August 2, 2024

Several rounds of storms, some severe and causing damage, pushed through portions of northern and central Alabama, pretty much all day long! There have been numerous reports of downed trees and power lines and some structural damage. We can’t capture every single report, but here are some published by either NWS Birmingham or NWS Huntsville, along with a few damage/storm photos.

Local Storm Reports:
- 1143 AM – 1 W Woodville (Jackson County): A social media post indicated wind damage at Paint Rock Valley. This included a snapped power pole, trees uprooted, metal roofing peeled up and heavy damage to a metal barn/shed. Time estimated by radar.
- 1204 PM – 5 SE New Hope (Marshall County): Up to 14 trees were snapped or uprooted on Forty Road near Grant. Time estimated by radar.
- 1205 PM – 5 SSW Grant (Marshall County): Poles and lines in the lake. Also some homes damaged; near HWY 431 and Snug Harbor Rd. Time est from radar.
- 1241 PM – 2 S Geraldine (DeKalb County): A tree was knocked down, another uprooted, and a metal roof was blown off of a large barn. This took place at 11113 Alabama Highway 227. Time estimated by radar.
- 419 PM – 3 SSW Bluff (Fayette County): Multiple trees down on County Road 47 at Bethabara Road.
- 5:53 PM – 1 NW Lake Nicol Park (Tuscaloosa County): Trees and some utility lines/transformers down.
- 7:09 PM – 1 S Camp Horne B.S.A. (Tuscaloosa County): Tree down along I-20 west affecting lanes of travel.
