Debby Remains Off the SC Coast…But Not For Long

| August 7, 2024 @ 8:01 pm

Good Wednesday Evening! Here is the latest update on Tropical Storm Debby. The latest advisory from the NHC keeps the maximum winds near 60 mph.  It is slowly moving to the north at 3 mph.  The center is 40 miles ESE of Charleston, SC.  The center should cross the SC coast late tonight/early Thursday.  Once Debby moves in, the storm will get picked up by good south to southwesterly winds and will increase in speed, heading toward the Mid-Atlantic, where it will be merging with a front.  The big threat from Debby continues to be heavy rain and the risk of flooding.  In addition, there is a continued isolated tornado threat.

The NWS Charleston has confirmed four tornadoes so far with Debby.  Two were given an EF1 rating, the other two were rated EF0.  Here is their full report followed by a few tweets showing some of the damage.
