Bring a big appetite to ¡HICA!’s annual Birmingham Pig Roast Saturday, Aug. 10, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. In addition to pulled pork and sides, attendees can look forward to a vibrant atmosphere and engaging family entertainment. Plus, try the Lagerveza — a beer by Cahaba Brewing Co. brewed just for the event. Proceeds benefit ¡HICA! and its mission to empower Latinos in Alabama. Journey to Africa, ‘Journey of the Drums’
Journey to Africa, “Journey of the Drums” is a rich expression of African influences on culture portrayed artistically through the performing arts from a contemporary modernistic perspective. The production takes place Saturday, Aug. 10, featuring spoken word, live drumming and a repertoire of nine original choreographed dances from local and regional artists. Sidewalk Film Festival ticket sales
The 26th annual Sidewalk Film Festival is Aug. 19-25 in Birmingham’s historic theater district. The film fest is offering screenings of more than 200 films, filmmaker Q&As, panels, workshops, networking events and parties. Venues include the Alabama School of Fine Arts, Alabama Theatre, Birmingham Museum of Art, Carver Theatre, First Church Birmingham, Lyric Theatre and Sidewalk Cinema.
