DAYS GETTING MORE COMFORTABLE: Birmingham is up to 45 degrees at 2:00 this afternoon with a strong February sun. Still, that is about 15 degrees below average for this time of the year, but it sure feels better than the sub-freezing days we have experienced lately. The warming trend continues; we will see a high around 50 tomorrow, with mid 50s likely Friday. The air stays dry, and both days will remain mostly sunny.

WHAT ABOUT THE WEEKEND: For now the chance of any one spot getting wet Saturday looks pretty small; just a few widely scattered showers around here with a weak impulse passing through. Sunday will be dry with a partly sunny sky. The latest GFS MOS is printing 57 Saturday, and a very pleasant 62 Sunday, which is very possible.

SUNDAY NIGHT/MONDAY: The global models are converging nicely on the idea of our next significant weather rain event late Sunday night into Monday of next week, with a surface low passing north of our state. There might even be a thunderstorm or two involved. Looks like 1/2 to 1 inch of rain statewide, and the main window for the rain will be from about 12:00 midnight Sunday night through 12:0 noon Monday.

MORE WINTER WEATHER MISCHIEF?: Watch the Weather Xtreme video, and you can see the can of worms the 12Z GFS is trying to open up late next week. Cold air filters in following the rain Monday, and a Gulf low develops by Wednesday night, bringing precipitation to much of the Deep South by Thursday. The 12Z run hints at snow for North Alabama, but we all know this is pure voodoo at this point. But, the idea of something like that happening down the road is very much on the table with the negative AO and the enhanced southern storm track going nowhere.

STORM ALERT 2010 COMING TO MOUNDVILLE TOMORROW NIGHT: Our annual severe weather rolls along; our next stop will be tomorrow night at Hale County High School in Moundville.
